This 2006 series of multi-media paintings embodies
the elements of "Tidal Landscapes" and introduces
another dimension: What the eye sees is only the top
layer of reality. "Beneath the Surface" integrates
the use of collage of acrylic ink on rice and tissue
paper with the mixed media of pastel, coloured pencils,
watercolour and acrylic on watercolor paper.

Mixed media paintings based on the
tidal landscapes of Tofino and Denman and Hornby Islands.
The colours and shapes of the beach stone, tidepools
and the windy coastal forests, the play of the light,
the wind and the water continually shift and change
the forms—rearranging their aspect, altering their
possibilities.
Low tides on Vancouver Island provide
an endless source of visual inspiration: the rocks,
pools, grasses, mud, kelp, sand and sea; the constantly
changing tide and daylight create layers of colour,
texture, shape and light.

altering their possibilities.
These paintings are based on live
model poses that range from 60 seconds to 15 minutes.
The figures are either solitary or sequential with the
figures moving and interacting with each other. Movement
is intrinsic to these figures because it describes change
and illustrates the possibility of influence.
These paintings explore the different
and changing perspectives that are inherent in human
interaction. They represent the dynamics between groups
of people and between the various facets of one person.
